Until fairly recently any person who portrayed concern about the wreckage of the environment raised skeptical eyebrows. Those days are over, and it appears we all recognize our role in stopping and conceivably reversing the damage being done to our planet. Unless everyone begins to start living a lot more eco-friendly we won’t be able to fix the problems of the environment. Each and every family must start creating changes that are environmentally friendly and they have to do this soon. Keep reading for some ways to go green and save energy, mainly in the kitchen.

Start with replacing the lights. Obviously you shouldn’t confine this to just the cooking area. You should replace your incandescent lights by using energy-saver, compact fluorescent light bulbs. These bulbs are energy-efficient which means electricity consumption is definitely lower, and, although they cost a bit more to buy, will outlast an incandescent light ten times over. Making use of these longer-lasting lightbulbs has the benefit that many fewer lightbulbs make it into landfills. Coupled with different light bulbs, you should learn to leave the lights off whenever they are not needed. The family spends considerable time in the cooking area, and how frequently does the kitchen light go on in the morning and is left on all day long. And it’s not restricted to the kitchen, it takes place in other parts of the house as well. Make a routine of having the lights on only when they are needed, and you’ll be surprised at the amount of electricity you save.

As you can see, there are many little things that you can do to save energy, and save money, in the kitchen alone. Efficient living is something we can all do, without difficulty. It’s about being functional, usually.

  1. Take flank steak
  2. Use broccoli (1 bunch)
  3. Provide red bell pepper
  4. Provide square piece of fresh ginger
  5. Prepare peanut oil (can substitute vegetable oil)
  6. Provide garlic
  7. You need oyster sauce
  8. Prepare chicken stock
  9. You need sesame oil (toasted)
  10. Use brown sugar
  11. You need dry sherry
  12. Provide corn starch
  13. Take White rice
Instructions to make Beef Stir Fry:
  1. Put the flank steak in the freezer from anywhere between 10 minutes to 1 hour to toughen it before slicing it. Then, cut with the grain into 2 inch pieces, then cut perpendicularly into 1/8 inch thick slides.
  2. Marinade the flank steak slices in soy sauce for at least 5 minutes, although 1 hour is preferable.
  3. Cut the florets off the heads of broccoli. Halve them if they are larger than bite sized. Also, prepare the stem of the broccoli (white interior only), slicing on the bias into 1/8" slices.
  4. Prepare the red bell pepper by dicing it into 1/4" square pieces.
  5. Peel and grate the ginger using a fine zester, such as one from Microplane. Then, mince the garlic and add it to the ginger. Put 1 1/2 tsp of peanut oil in the mixture to prevent it from burning. Set aside.
  6. Make the sauce by adding 5 tbsp of oyster sauce, 3 tbsp chicken stock, 1 tsp sesame oil, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 tbsp dry sherry, and 1 tsp corn starch. Set aside.
  7. Start cooking white rice.
  8. Heat 1 1/2 tsp peanut oil to high heat in a non-stick skillet. Drain the beef from the marinade, and then cook half of the flank steak. Once cooked, set aside and add another 1 1/2 tsp peanut oil to the pan. Allow it to reheat and then cook the other half of the beef in a similar manner. Each side will take about 45 seconds to cook. DO NOT overcook the beef. You will cook it again later, and can always make sure it's more cooked through if you're worried, but you cannot go back.
  9. Add 1 tbsp to a clean non-stick skillet. Wait for wisps of oil to appear, and then add the broccoli. Cook in the pan for 30 seconds. Then, add 1/3 cup of water to the pan, cover with a lid, and turn the heat down to medium. Cook for 2 minutes, or until tender (test with the tip of a knife). Once done, set aside on a paper towel-lined plate.
  10. Add 1 1/2 tsp of peanut oil to a clean non-stick skillet on high heat, and wait until the oil gives off wisps. Cook the peppers until they start to soften (about 1 - 1.5 minutes). When you start to see flecks of brown, add the aromatics (ginger, garlic, and oil). Cook for another 30 seconds. Add beef, broccoli, and sauce into the pan. Cook it all together just to reheat the parts that have cooled. Serve with white rice.
